Gabby Gets Cozy

On the day that General David Petraeus gives his report to the House of Representatives on the situation in Iraq, MoveOn.org has printed in the New York Times an ad calling him “General Betray Us“, accusing him of being a puppet of the Bush Administration. This ad was of course viewed online and in print by the millions of people worldwide who read the Times before the General even made it to the steps of the Capitol to give his report.

To make things clear, MoveOn.org is saying that an American General, who has served the United States for over 35 years is a traitor to his country. Just wondering, but what does MoveOn.org consider people like Jose Padilla to be?

When Gabby Giffords was running for Congress in the fall of 2006 she said, “We must pursue a responsible exit strategy from Iraq, but only after Iraq is secure.” Yet at the same time she did not hesitate to take over $6,000 in campaign contributions from MoveOn. So what Gabby says to get elected is different from what she actually believes.

So can Americans count on Gabby to denounce the despicable actions of MoveOn.org against an American General who is doing what he thinks is best for America, Iraq, and our troops? Absolutely not. She has become quite cozy with the MoveOn.org crowd and the ultra-liberal members of Congress. If she denounced MoveOn, she would lose a great deal of campaign money from: Nancy Pelosi who has given her $8,000; Tom Daschle, $8,000; John Dingell, $2,000; Raul Grijalva, $1,000; Steny Hoyer, $8,000; John Murtha, $4,000; Charlie Rangel, $2,000, and many other liberal organizations and members of Congress.

Instead of listening to what the commander of U.S. forces in Iraq has to say, Gabby has decided that she would rather walk arm-in-arm with MoveOn.org and play politics with an very important issue. Yet at the same time claims she wants to see success in Iraq. After returning from a February trip to Iraq with Senator Kyl, Gabby told the Nogales International newspaper that if the Democrats ever tried to put a bill in Congress that would cut off funding to the troops she would vote against it. Yet barely a month later, she voted in favor of HR 1591, the Democrats bill to cut off funding for the troops. Then in April she went so far as to say that “There is not a huge terrorist presence in Iraq.”

When Gabby has become so close to MoveOn.org and the ultra-liberal leadership in Congress, we should not expect anything else from her except ultra-liberal views and votes on Iraq, or anything else for that matter.
